LANGUAGE

Between the ages of 18 months to 3 years old, children go through a language ‘explosion’.  Language is part of every activity we have.  Maria Montessori observed that children rapidly and naturally absorb languages with ease, whereas, after the age of 6, language acquisition becomes more of a challenge.  Their early experiences with language in their environment, both spoken and written, greatly affects their social, emotional, and intellectual development.

Examples of language include modeling respectful conversations, nomenclature and naming objects, discussing things we have seen on a walk, and sandpaper letters, which introduce the child to the sounds of the letters.
